Literary Voyages: Here and there, Past and Present
|Thursday 6th December||2:00-3:00||LG 40 Lecture Theatre 1|
There is a place and a need for a re-writing of work—both historical and fictional—that does not fairly represent those who are marginalised, such as women and the culturally diverse. In this session, Mirandi Riwoe will discuss how her work writes back to the past and how this form of writing engages with contemporary social justice issues. Yet, she recognises that not all work is post-colonial and that there is still a need to ‘write back’ to the present. Drawing on her recent time in Shanghai—on an Asialink and Shanghai Writers Association writers’ residency—with numerous writers and translators from around the world, she examines how this experience has informed how she thinks about the imaginative possibilities of the form in relation to writing to the past and the present.
