Basho’s Guide to Writing Images

A master of concrete language, Japanese haiku poet Matsuo Bashō is a useful guide for how to render the world in clear and concise images. Join this workshop to read and discuss haiku images, and to learn how to write your own memorable images. The session will include an in-class writing activity and a discussion of participants’ work.Note: Poets and nonpoets alike are welcome.

Shea is the author of two poetry collections, The Lost Novel and Star in the Eye, both from Fence Books. His poems have appeared in various publications, including Boston Review, Colorado Review, Denver Quarterly, jubilat, and The New Census: An Anthology of Contemporary American Poetry. He is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Humanities and Creative Writing and the
Associate Director of the International Writers’ Workshop at Hong Kong Baptist University.
